Preamble

We, the duly constituted representatives of this organization, in order to form a closer union among college students for the fostering of the high ideals of academic and social life, and the assisting of our members in every possible way, do hereby establish this constitution for the government of this organization.  This South Georgia College chapter shall be bound by the government established in the constitution and its by-laws.

 

Article I - Name

The name of this organization shall be The Student Organization for Multicultural Unity (SOMU).

 

Article II - Purpose

The principal purposes and goals of this organization shall be: to promote fellowship among students through academic, cultural and social activities; to help its members become socially responsible, build character, and develop leadership skills; and to act as an avenue for members to contribute to college and community.

 

Article III - Establishment

The organization shall be established as a campus-based chapter, and shall be composed of current South Georgia College students.  The organization is established under the direction of the Vice President of Student Affairs and faculty or staff advisors.  The college requires an advisor for the organization and said advisor shall govern the organization by the rules and regulations of the institution. 

 

Article IV- Membership

The Student Organization for Multicultural Unity shall consist of South Georgia College students who are actively willing to accomplish the purposes and goals of the organization. Membership shall not be denied because of race, color, creed, religion, gender, age, national origin or by reason of physical handicap.   

 

Article V- Meetings

This organization shall meet once every two weeks. The meeting shall not exceed one hour in length, unless changes are made for special events. 

 

Article VI- Finance

The organization shall be financed by the South Georgia College Student Activities budget allocations and the Fund Agency Account.
