Attendance When you miss all or part of a class session, you miss out on important instruction (which you or someone else has paid for). Tardiness is also a form of absence which disrupts instruction as much (if not more) than missing class altogether. You inconvenience your instructor and classmates by your absence or tardiness. The attendance policy for this class is designed to help you understand the importance of being considerate of your instructor and classmates and to help you do what is in your own best interest as well. As the majority of in-class activities involve listening and speaking, it is virtually impossible to make up for missed class meetings. For this reason also students should strive to be present and punctual for each class meeting. Missing four or more class meetings of a summer class is considered excessive. Excessive absences may result in an administrative withdrawal from the course (before midterm) or a failing grade for the course (after midterm). Students missing class due to school-sponsored activities, illness or other official/serious matters should schedule make-up sessions with the instructor. Students with excessive absences and/or tardies may also be reported to the Dean of Students. |

Academic Support Center The Academic Support Center (ASC) is located in Powell 216 and provides free peer tutoring to SGSC students currently enrolled in the course in which they seek assistance. ASC Tutors are fellow students who have excelled in various courses. The ASC Tutors will work with you to solve difficult problems or to understand difficult concepts, however they will not give answers, will not complete a student’s homework, and will not complete other graded assignments. The ASC will offer last-minute help for students who have read their texts, have kept current with the course material, and have put forth a genuine effort of their own. Visit www.sgc.edu/student_life/asc for more information on the hours and locations of free peer tutoring. Jasmine Flores, Academic Support Center Specialist Office: Powell 216, 912-260-4415 |

Academic Integrity Policy Do not expect to receive credit in this course for work you have not done yourself. You may need to get a Spanish word or phrase from a dictionary, online translator, classmate or native speaker to complete an assignment. Be prepared to tell me what any of these mean in English if you choose to use the words in your compositions, etc. Otherwise, I will assume that you are taking credit for work done by someone or something else. This is one type of violation of SGSC's academic integrity policy. Cheating on a test would be another example. If you violate this policy in this or any other SGSC course, you should expect to be reported to the Dean of Students. |
