Welcome to the Online Learning Community at South Georgia College
South Georgia College uses GeorgiaView to deliver online course content. In fact, many SGC
professors use GeorgiaView as a supplement within their face-to-face classroom
courses.
Next to the "Online Courses and
Orientations", the most important instructional pages are
"Getting Started" and "Installing Java". These are located in the
"select a link"
menu area above.
If you follow the steps on these pages,
your computerwill be "GeorgiaView Ready" and you will not have
problems attaching files, submitting assignments, posting messages, or completing
discussions.
Your first step is to find out more information concerning GeorgiaVIEW such as
how to log in, obtain your password, or seek help, visit the "How to Log
into GeorgiaView" page by clicking on the Quick Links menu above or by
clicking on this link.
Your next step should be to click on this link
and watch a web video that provides an overview of GeorgiaView. This
video will answer a number of questions you might have and will guide
you in configuring your computer for GeorgiaView.
Your next step is to
select
the "Online Courses and Orientations" link in the above "Online
Learning links" menu
box to find course specific orientation material designed by your
professor. Click on the "down" arrow to the right of "Online
Learning Links"
to explore the pages. Also on this page, you can answer some general
questions concerning online learning that will help you to determine
if online learning is right for you.
In addition, you can click on this link
which will bring you to the University of Georgia "Student
Online Readiness Tool" (SORT). Research and study tell us that there are
six main topics closely related to a student's success in the online
learning environment. Each section of SORT has a brief description
followed by a questionnaire. Based on your responses to questions,
feedback is provided on your personal readiness profile, along with
suggested strategies for success and links to more information.
After the above steps are completed, you
can explore other online learning related information by selecting
additional options in the
"select a link" menu. There are a number of
pages that offer support, provide various help functions, answer frequently asked
questions, and provide online orientation material for our current courses. The
pages are designed to ensure your
success in the SGC online environment by completing other important
steps to verify that your computer is compatible with GeorgiaView and SGC's
online learning environment.

SGC provides several types of courses:
FULLY ONLINE COURSES - All of the class sessions are delivered via
technology. The course does not require students to travel to a
classroom for instruction. In this case, the technology is usually
GeorgiaView.
FULLY AT A DISTANCE COURSES -
All of the class sessions are delivered via technology.
The course does not require students to travel to a classroom for
instruction; however, the course might require students to travel to a
site to attend an orientation or to take exams. This type of course is
generally equivalent to delivering more than 95 percent of sessions via
technology.
PARTIAL AT A DISTANCE COURSES - Technology is used to deliver
more than 50
percent of class sessions, but visits to a classroom (or similar site)
are required.
HYBRID COURSES - Technology is used to deliver 50
percent or less of class sessions, but at least one class session is
replaced by technology.
TECHNOLOGY ENHANCED COURSES - 100% of
the class sessions are assigned to a specific location on campus.
Technology is used in delivering instruction to all students in the
class, but no class sessions are replaced by technology.
To view all of the online courses offered through the University
